Questions and Answers About Our Services

We are here to answer any questions you may have about our programs and support services.

We are a domestic abuse charity supporting women and children affected by, or at risk of, domestic abuse in the United Kingdom and West Africa, with a particular focus on Nigeria and Ghana. We combine practical legal support with advocacy and education, working to protect, educate and empower survivors.

The charity was founded by Nneka Agada and named after her mother, Sybil Agada, who survived years of domestic abuse. Nneka grew up witnessing that abuse, and her experience drives everything we do.

We are rooted in Christian faith and values, but our services are provided to everyone regardless of faith, belief or background. We never require you to follow any religion as a condition of support.

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and our registration is currently being finalised. We will publish our charity number on this website as soon as it is confirmed.

We support women and children who are experiencing, or at risk of, domestic abuse, in the UK and West Africa. Domestic abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological or economic, and it can come from a partner, an ex-partner or a family member.

We offer three things. We provide information and advice so you can understand abuse and your options. We help you access free legal advice and support. And we provide advocacy through our partners and signposting, connecting you to the right services for your situation.

No. We facilitate access to pro bono (free) and low cost legal support through our network, for women who would otherwise be unable to afford it.

You can reach us through the contact form on our website at sybilsdaughter.org. Tell us a little about your situation and we will respond as soon as we can.

We treat everyone who comes to us with care and discretion.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 now. If you cannot speak safely, call 999 and then press 55 when prompted; this Silent Solution system lets you signal to the police that you need help without speaking. Domestic abuse is any pattern of controlling, coercive, threatening or violent behaviour between people who are, or have been, partners or family members. It is far more common than many people realise. The Crime Survey for England and Wales estimated that around 3.8 million people aged 16 and over experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2025, including 2.2 million women.
Abuse is not only physical. It can include emotional abuse, controlling behaviour, isolation from friends and family, threats, and economic abuse such as controlling your money. If something does not feel right, you are entitled to seek advice and support.
We run talks, workshops, school and community outreach, film screenings and dramatic presentations to help people recognise domestic abuse, understand their rights and know how to get help.
